Top festivals and events in Asia this week – May 7-13


FASHION, jazz, food, blues and sustainable tourism forums are just some of the events happening around Asia this week.

The 10th Biennial Asia Tourism Forum 2012, Bandung, Indonesia, May 8-10
This tourism forum was developed with the need to address the rapid development in Asian tourism and has been held successfully throughout Asia over the last few years. This year the theme for the forum is “Rethinking Tourism” with a focus on sustainable development strategies.

WordStorm & the National Poetry Festival 2012, Darwin, Australia, May 10-13
Head to Darwin this week for a series of literary dinners, workshops, comedy debates, panels, readings, book-launches and more. The northern capital will heat up with an array of artists and events across the city over four days.


Borneo International Jazz Festival, May 11-12
An annual event in Miri Resort City, Sarawak that attracts about 7000 spectators and participants. Jazz groups from around the world take part in the two day affair featuring evening concerts and craft bazaars.

The 9th Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival (JFF) 2012, May 12-27
This fashion and food festival returns to Jakarta this year at the Summarecon, Kelapa Gading Center featuring fashion shows, food exhibitions, entertainment and an array of other activities. Over the 16 full days of entertainment there will be costumes, street dancers, fireworks and theatrical performances.

Cairns Blues Festival, Cairns, Australia, May 12
The fourth annual version of the Cairns Blues Festival will heat up the northern city with 16 acts in one day including Thomasina Winslow, Blue Heat, Kniki and Mike Beale and Eugene “hideaway’ Bridges. Events take place in Cairns’ Forgarty Park.
