La Residence d’Angkor is a stunning 5-star hotel owned by the Orient-Express Group, and blends perfectly with Siem Reap’s local architectural styles. The hotel is constructed to reflect traditional Khmer (Cambodian) wooden building structures.
Its luxurious saltwater pool located in the centre of the hotel’s grounds pays homage to the area’s Baray lakes, with 45,000 handmade tiles each reflecting a shade of green. The exterior evokes a traditional feel, and the rooms, while modern, feature local materials including hardwood, bamboo, cotton and silk.
The rooms are spacious and luxurious evoking a high-end Asian spa experience, and come with private terraces. Some rooms face the river, while others look over the garden or pool area. There is a choice of upscale and casual dining areas, including the stylish restaurant The Dining Room, offering a taste of royal Khmer cuisine.
A highlight is the relaxing tapas restaurant and bar The Martini Lounge, which is a wooden roofed, open-sided structure built in a traditional Khmer style overlooking the lush gardens.
The hotel is a short walk across the river from the centre of town and its bustling markets, restaurants, cafes and boutiques. It is approximately a 15 minute drive away from Siem Reap’s drawcard, the magnificent temples of Angkor, including the world famous Angkor Wat.
Rooms at La Residence d’Angkor include a choice of Riverside, Gardenside or Poolside Rooms, along with 8 luxurious suites featuring separate loungerooms and oversized freestanding bathtubs in the bathrooms.
The rooms come equipped with Wi-Fi internet access, flatscreen televisions and DVD players. Each room type has a private terrace with a table and chairs, perfect for relaxing on post-temple trip.
Restaurant choices at La Residence d’Angkor include high end eatery The Dining Room, featuring royal Khmer cuisine and international gourmet fare.
There are occasional traditional Cambodian music performances, and Khmer dance performances are held three nights a week. A more casual option is the indoor/outdoor Martini Lounge with its tropical luxe vibe and tasty tapas menu.
The Pool Bar is another low key option for a beverage and a light lunch, and there’s also the outdoor BBQ restaurant for a grilled meal served poolside.
Facilities at La Residence d’Angkor include four excellent drinking and dining options, and a luxurious day spa, Kong Kea Spa, offering a comprehensive range of massages and beauty treatments.
It features six treatment rooms, some appointed with steam rooms, private saunas and Jacuzzis, and there’s a cold plunge pool overlooking a bamboo garden.
There are also yoga and meditation classes plus monk talks available by appointment. The hotel offers bicycle hire and can arrange private tours and guides to visit the temples.
"A great location within walking distance of main centre or a short trip by Tuk Tuk, but in a low key and quiet setting by the river. Lovely buildings, great room overlooking the pool, very spacious and comfortably furnished." Clan Cooper, Wiltshire, UK
"This is a great hotel with great service and a wonderful design and atmosphere. All details have been paid attention to, from the lobby entrance to the excellent pool." Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong
"The hotel really exceeded expectations. The design and layout is very impressive. The rooms are large, and having stayed in many hotels, I can tell the architect really put extensive thought into the design, because the flow of the rooms works really well." Lah Lah Lo, Singapore
