A well maintained 150-year-old heritage property blessed with amazing views over the Doon Valley, with excellent, attentive service and spacious rooms with luxurious furnishings. Hand-carved fireplaces, antique furnishings, hunting trophies and opulent chandeliers are majestic reminders of the estate’s rich history.
There’s something almost regal about Padmini Nivas and a quick look at its history soon reveals why. Not only is it one of the oldest buildings in Mussoorie but it did once belong to the Maharaja of Rajpipla who then gifted it to his wife Padmini, after whom the hotel is named.
There is still much evidence of the Raj era here with everything from elaborately carved fireplaces to magnificent chandeliers and proud hunting trophies.
But while both grand and elegant, Padmini Nivas is also very homely. The landscaped gardens, hideaway corners and balconies give you plenty of opportunities to relax and wile away the hours as if you were in your own home. Children will also enjoy games like pool and table tennis available on site. And staff service is attentive and courteous.
On a clear day the views from the reception and the gardens over the Doon Valley are simply superb and guests will be hard pressed to venture beyond the flowery verandas and balconies that the owner, Mrs Worah, has attended to so beautifully.
The rooms are appointed as Semi Deluxe, Deluxe, Suite, Deluxe Suite and Apartment.
All of the rooms have channel entertainment, intercom and discreet room service. All have different tariffs but each are scrupulously clean and feature antique beds and chairs, elegant rugs and furnishings, arched wooden doorways, elaborate old fireplaces and plenty of windows to throw natural light into the rooms.
Some of the rooms have separate entrances, as opposed to from the common corridor, so if you want something more private ask when you book.
Padmini Niwas has its own inhouse restaurant, Suruchi, with a multi-cuisine vegetarian menu serving everything from Gujarati thali to Punjabi, South Indian, Chinese and Continental food.
Suruchi has outdoor tables and benches with excellent views of the mountains and valley, and it’s particularly beautiful to sit out here on a fine morning.
Those that are seeking non-vegetarian options have plenty of selections to choose from in the bazaar.
In summer the Season Garden is also open, an outdoor fast food restaurant.
If you feel the urge to sightsee beyond the welcoming borders of the hotel, contact reception about sight seeing and day trip options. These can include adventure sports, cultural sights, bush walking or even a yoga lesson.
"The more said about Padmini Nivas, the less it is! This simply means the place is at its best in anything and everything. Once you enter the premises of Padmini Nivas, you feel at home. The staff is ready to welcome and greet you well. They provide you good hospitality and are very courteous. Brilliant in service and fulfilling customer expectations. We stayed 2 nights with Padmini Nivas and we always had a great feeling with the place. Food is wow. Service is great. Rooms are more than your expectations, place is simply superb." Dhimple.
"The hotel is the best bet for academic professionals like me whose financial capabilities are in tune with their cultural likes and dislikes and for whom vacations mean reflections, relaxation and enrichment of life with new positive values, new acquaintances, new environment and a new bonding with nature. On all these counts we (my wife, daughter and myself) were enriched by our stay at Padmini Nivas. The services of the hotel staff were superlatively excellent. They were always around to help you with a smile. The reception desk people are among the best that we have encountered in our travels in Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand, South East Asia and India. The food (Alas! It is strictly vegetarian) was excellent and one could order food right from 6.30am in the morning in the room service section. The only grey area is that undesirable elements from cultureless Delhi make the place a bit noisy over the weekends. The standard of the rooms were good." Shalini Sawhney.
"Every thing at Padmini nivas from the gracious lady owner and Vikram the manager, through to every staff member that we met could only make any one feel special. An absolute pleasure to stay there. Good food, cooked in a pristine kitchen, ( we still have the photo to prove it ! ) 2 couples." M. Glenwright.
