From Chiang Mai’s only five-star hotel along the scenic Mae Ping river, traditional fishing boats drift past the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors of all eighty-four sleek guestrooms. Linger on the river-facing balconies, dine at the colonial British Consulate-turned Thai, Indian and Western restaurant, or wander through the famed night bazar, just minutes from the hotel.

Urban Luxury in Thailand’s North

Behind renowned architect Kerry Hill’s four-story bamboo-clad wall stands one of Thailand’s most striking modern compounds, ‘Japanese ryokan meets Louis Kahn.’ Linger on river-facing balconies or by the riverside pool. Dine at the former colonial British consulate-turned-Thai, Indian and Western restaurant.

Explore the temples and elephant treks around Chiang Mai, leaving evenings to wander through the famed night bazaar, five minutes by foot, and another five into Chiang Mai’s charming old town.

The Chedi Chiang Mai is a boutique hotel offering 52 beautifully appointed deluxe rooms and 32 Chedi Club Suites. The rooms and suites follow a contemporary Asian-influenced design with stylish furnishings and plenty of amenities to compliment.

Each room and suite boasts its own private courtyard entrance into a spacious bedroom and open plan bathroom. Each room and suite also features a large private balcony with views over the Mae Ping River and mountains. The Chedi Club Suites additionally offer large sitting areas and generous open balconies with daybeds for exclusive al fresco entertaining.

In room amenities include a/c, telephone, mini bar, Satellite TV, internet access, safe, hairdryer, bathrobe and coffee/tea making facilities. Chedi Club Suites also feature complimentary continental breakfast, complimentary minibar, private butler service and a Bose stereo sound system.

Daylight streams into each of the eighty-four polished, wood-clad accommodations through the wall of floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors leading onto a generous balcony. Here, the double daybed provides the ideal vantage point from which to observe the peaceful flow of Thai river life.

52 Deluxe Rooms feel as luxurious as they are named, while the 32 Club Suites include a spacious interior dining area and a larger, open-plan bathroom.

Dining at the Chedi is a real treat and is a global affair with Western, Thai, Korean and Indian dishes served inside the 90-year old British consulate building and outside on the teak, tree-shaded deck. Alternately, you may well just decide to have your meal served on your private balcony overlooking the tropical gardens.

Try taking a woven cane seat on the verandah for afternoon tea, serving the best of local and Anglo-inspired sweets and savouries, a cushy couch in The Lobby Lounge, a spot around the colonial bar or head back upstairs to sprawl on your daybed with panoramic river views of the Mae Ping, exotic or classic cocktail in hand.

The concierge service at the Chedi is able to arrange elephant tours, river cruises, cooking classes and even trips to the local markets.

"The Chedi Chiang Mai is boutique hotel perfection personified! If less is more, the Chedi's distinctive style is "most"! Quietly elegant and modern without being off- putting, the hotel is a serene oasis in middle of the hustle bustle of Chiang Mai. We stayed in a Chedi suite which includes lounge access, free mini-bar (including alcohol) and even laundry service! Upon arrival and departure we were greeted by the hotel manager, Stefan Noll, to whom I wholeheartedly credit the Chedi's success. Here is an example of management that cares which trickles down to its’ employees. If you are in Chiang Mai, and want to spoil yourself, go for the Chedi. You won't regret it!" Nicesmil, USA

"The Chedi is lovely! No other way of describing it. Tranquil ponds with vases holding lotus blossums during the day and candles at night. (Apparently a staff person takes a small boat out to make the change twice a day). The decor is minimalist, carefully arranged and most appealing. The accommodating staff are very friendly and informative. Our room ovelooked the pool and the river and was very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was beaurtifully presented with a choice of several hot items prepared to order. The Chedi is on the edge of the old city area so is a considerable walk to some of the sights - but the journey is an experience in itself."  Landle60, Canada
