"Boutique, luxury hotels are my thing. The Mercer Hotel is absolutely lovely. It lies within the very humble area of Sheung Wan, which is humble in comparison to the very bustling areas on Hong Kong Island like Central and Soho. The concierges at the Mercer are absolutely trained to offer an upgrade during check in. If you can afford it, ask for a calculator, do the conversion and buy the upgrade. I was able to upgrade from a king standard room to a suite for $71 per night. It may sound like a lot, but if you are traveling 16 hours on a plane to a "far away land" why not pamper oneself. The small suit had a very efficient and modern design. The pocket doors were sleek and the bathroom was very well done. The major pitfall of this hotel is that there is nearly service free. There are cleaners who do a fantastic job, but there is no real kitchen and the complimentary breakfast is kind of strange if you are gearing up for a long day. I only mention this because when you fly halfway around the world for 16 hours with an 11 hour time different and aren't mentally prepared to figure out how it all works when you arrive...you might be hungry. Otherwise, the design itself was fantastic." Foodgrl, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
"We spent 4 night at the end of March at The Mercer as part of our Asia trip before heading to Vietnam. I wanted to try The Mercer as I usually book my boss here when he travels to Hong Kong for business (after researching TripAdvisor). The first time I booked him here he said it was a great little place and he is happy to stay here every time. After staying here myself I can see why. It is small, comfortable, clean, attractive and a 2 minute walk to the MTR. The guys on reception are a little aloof but helpful. A simple but adequate buffet breakfast is included as well as wireless internet, local calls and mini bar with water and soft drinks. If you are looking for a no fuss but comfortable stay, The Mercer is the one." GreenGrass_Melbourne, Australia
